Music

Music in the Episcopal Church can be quite diverse and does somewhat vary from parish to parish. While some parishes only use The Hymnal 1982, other parishes also use one or both of the two authorized supplemental hymnals, Wonder, Love, & Praise and Lift Every Voice and Sing II:  An African American Hymnal. Wonder, Love, & Praise (WLP) is mostly more contemporary music, while Lift Ever Voice and Sing II (LEVAS) contains mostly more traditional African-American gospel sytle music.

Some parishes use mostly contemporary music, while other parishes mostly use much older music, occasionally mixing in ancient Latin pieces as well as music from other languages. In the Episcopal Church you can find everything from Bach to Bono. (Yes, that Bono.) There are even individual parishes that use the entire range of music, but not usually during the same worship gathering.
